Bidirectional Power Conversion System (PCS)

The converter that moves energy between the battery's DC and the AC grid, in both directions.

Versions
Central, string-type, on/off-grid

Best for: C&I storage, utility BESS and microgrids.

  • Charge and discharge in one unit
  • Grid-forming for off-grid operation
  • Seamless on/off-grid switching options
  • Communicates with BMS and EMS

The PCS is the storage system’s inverter. It charges the battery from the grid or solar, discharges it to the loads or grid, and — in grid-forming mode — creates a stable grid on its own when no utility supply is present.

Choosing a PCS

  • Battery voltage window must cover the full charge range of the battery over its life.
  • Off-grid capability is essential for microgrids and backup; not every PCS can form a grid.
  • Grid code — harmonics, fault ride-through and reactive power requirements differ by country.

We supply PCS matched and tested with our battery systems so the BMS, PCS and EMS work as one.

Common configurations

  • Central
  • String-type
  • On-grid / off-grid

What we confirm before quoting

Our engineers check these points with you, so the quotation fits your site rather than a catalogue default.

  1. 1Rated power
  2. 2Battery voltage range
  3. 3On-grid and off-grid capability
  4. 4Harmonics and grid code
  5. 5Cooling and communication

Frequently asked questions

What is grid-forming?

A grid-forming PCS sets the voltage and frequency itself, so it can run a microgrid without the utility or a running generator.

Can one PCS work with batteries from another supplier?

Sometimes, if the battery voltage range and BMS communication protocol match. Integration risk is lower when PCS and battery are supplied and tested together.

What tests are done before utility equipment ships?

Factory acceptance tests on each block — insulation, BMS functions, cooling and fire-system checks, and PCS functional tests where the PCS is integrated. You or a third-party inspector can witness them.

Which documents do grid studies and permits need from you?

Datasheets, single-line diagrams, protection settings, harmonic and fault-current data, fire-protection descriptions and simulation models where the utility requests them. We provide them for your consultant and the network operator.
