Solar-Diesel Hybrid Microgrid

Solar, batteries and generators run by one controller to power sites with a weak grid or none.

Versions
Off-grid, weak-grid or campus microgrid

Best for: Mines, farms, islands, villages, telecom and remote camps.

  • Generators run less and at better load
  • Battery covers nights and cloudy spells
  • One controller for all sources
  • Remote monitoring

Diesel generators are reliable but expensive to run where fuel must be trucked in. A hybrid microgrid lets solar carry the daytime load, the battery cover the evening, and the generator start only when needed — and then run at an efficient load.

Designing the hybrid

  • Load data — ideally a year, including seasonal peaks.
  • Generator minimum load — running diesels lightly loaded damages them; the controller must respect it.
  • Redundancy — critical loads (clinics, process plant) need N+1 thinking.
  • Fuel logistics — the cost per litre delivered on site drives the economics.

What we confirm before quoting

Our engineers check these points with you, so the quotation fits your site rather than a catalogue default.

  1. 1Load profile and solar resource
  2. 2Generator minimum load
  3. 3Control strategy
  4. 4Redundancy for critical loads
  5. 5Fuel supply and logistics

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to replace my generators?

No. Existing generators usually stay as backup. The controller integrates them with solar and the battery.

How long can the site run on solar and battery alone?

That is a design choice: a bigger battery and array mean fewer generator hours. We show several options with their fuel savings so you can choose the balance.

What data do you need to design a microgrid?

Site location, a load profile or at least daily consumption with peaks, generator sizes and fuel records, critical loads, and photos of the site and existing switchboards. Missing data can be estimated, but the design then states those assumptions.

Who operates the system day to day?

Usually a local operator or the site team. We train them on start-up, alarms, panel cleaning and basic maintenance, and support remotely through the monitoring platform.
